For the production of Murano glass, the masters need purely natural raw materials using their very secret formulas : quartz sand, lime, soda, potash, feldspar and alumina. All materials must be precisely composed in order to achieve optimum melting properties and the special colouring of the Murano glass. The master is the only one who has the exact formulas for glass production. It is not only the knowledge of the composition of the mixture that makes the glassmaker a master. It is their artistic abilities enable them to create masterpieces of glass. They are both a designer and a craftsman.
